The Three Weeks or 21 days are when bad things happened to Jews throughout
history. It is a period of mourning over these destructions. The Three Weeks for
2008 (5768) begins on July 20, 2008 (17th of Tammuz), and continue through
August 10, 2008 (9th of Av).
These 3 weeks commemorate the destruction of the two Holy Temples in Jerusalem.
The 9th of Av commemorates the day of the actual destruction by fire of the
Holy Temple, and is the last day of the Three Weeks.

God’s people are BROKEN CISTERNS, and hold NO life-giving water
My people have changed their Glory for what does not profit.
My people have committed two evils. They have forsaken Me,
the fountain of living waters, and hewn themselves cisterns,
broken cisterns that can hold no water.
Is Israel a servant? Is he a homeborn slave? Why is he plundered?
The young lions (USA some say) roared at him, and growled.
They made his land waste. His cities are burned, without inhabitant.
